Where to eat?

Callander

The Meadows Guest House, serves excellent food and has an outside beer garden.  No website as it is new. Beer garden menu more casual, gastro pub.  Restaurant has a 7 course tasting menu.  We're proud to say that they use our estate venison in their meals.

The Abbotsford Guest House, excellent food, smart casual place  Great Sunday roasts and afternoon tea. Family friendly.  They also use our venison.  Eaten here loads.

The Waverley, part of the Green King Chain.  Great for watching sports, have a pint and some chain pub food.  Very friendly place.

Mhor Bakery, on the high street you can’t miss it.  Fabulous artisan breads, sandwiches and cakes, brilliant coffee.  You can order from the counter and eat inside or out.

The Crags, two cultures combined here. The restaurant is a traditional Indian and the front bar is a quaint Scottish old pub.

The Crown, owned by The Abbotsford, caters for pint and good pub food.  Friendly place with live music on certain days. Good fun!

The Atrium, very much soup and a sandwich place, fish and chips, daily special with very good coffee and cake. It’s situated about the shop, across from the Waverley.

The Roman Camp Hotel, has a fine dining restaurant and a very cute ‘Potting Shed Bistro’.  Excellent but they do take a time to answer the phone, so keep ringing.

Callander has lots of coffee shops and other little cafes and they’re all pretty good.

Doune

The Woodside Hotel, in Dune serves good quality pub food with an outside area.  Great for coffee and cake and has an outside seating area.  The hotel has recently been renovated so it’s a lovely environment to sit and have a bite to eat.

The Coffee Bothy, is situated in Deanston Distillery.  Excellent food, coffee and cake.  We often go here and never have a complaint.  It’s in a nice setting with the River Teith just outside. Make a day of it and see Doune, Doune Castle.

Buttercup Café, excellent coffee and cake, caters for veggies and vegans, small but tasty menu and there is a small shopping centre, collection of sheds that specialise in garden, grafts, and women’s clothing.

Café Circa, situated within the Scottish Antiques Centre, just before Dune.  Very good café.  A bit pricey but it is very good and you can spend a bit of time antique hunting.  We’ve been there quite a lot.

Blair Drummond

The Smiddy Farm Shop, excellent farm shop with award wining craft butchers.  Good cheese selection and loads of different artisan foods. The café is excellent and they have Farah’s milk vending machine and sell Farah’s gelato.  On sunny weekends the Farah’s Gelato van can be found.  Farrah’s dairy is literally 2 miles from The Smiddy so you couldn’t get more local. Best gelato ever!!  They also sell our venison at the Butchers.

Kippen

The Wood House, a farm shop also but on a much smaller scale.  The café is very good and they have Teepee Tent outside seating area.

The Cross Keys, is really very good, excellent gastro pub food.  They have a little beer garden and the pub itself is full of old charm.  Well worth a wee drive.

Aberfoyle

Nick Nairn’s, is wonderful and only 15 minutes from Muir Estate.  It a very family friendly place, excellent customer service, simple food cooked as you can imagine, extremely well!  We love this place and is a nice treat.  Surprisingly it is very reasonably priced.  Well worth a visit and his wife Julia has a very good little cook shop.

I could go on about lots of other places, so if you want more info just ask me and I’ll happily advise.  The places we have stated here are the ones we have been to so felt it would be unfair to comment on places we have not
